- NanoDrop® ND-1000 is a spectrophotometer that covers the whole spectrum (220-750nm) and it measures concentrations using 1µl of sample, with high precision and reproducibility. It uses an innovative technology based on the superficial tension to keep the sample in the place of measurement, which avoids the use of cuvettes. Moreover, the ND-1000 can measure very concentrated samples without dilution (it accepts up to 50 times more concentration than the standard spectrophotometers). These features make this device ideal for the measurement of nucleic acids and to determine its quality. The software automatically computes the concentration of nucleic acids using this logics:
- 1 A260nm = 1 OD DNA = 50 µg/ml
1 A260nm = 1 OD RNA = 40 µg/ml
- The concentration of protein can be computed for samples subjected to the method of Bradford, Pierce, Lowry, BCA or by direct measurement of the absorbance at 280 nm. In this last case, the device assumes the relation between absorbance and concentration of protein as follows:
- 1 A280nm = 1 mg/ml
Likewise, the extinction coefficient can be adjusted for any protein. Moreover, the device allows the automatic conversion from absorbance to concentration for samples of BSA, Lysozyme and IgG.
